can only be won by faith, never by will-power. Many seek to subdue the old nature by ‘self-imposed religion, false humility, and neglect of the flesh [i.e. body]’, but such things ‘are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh [i.e. the old nature]’ (Col. 2:23). No—faith in Christ is the only way to overcome. Because faith in Christ is the only way, we must run the race ‘looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith’ (12:2). This is a most important statement.
